LUXURY INTERIOR DETAILS
Sunflower Beach will host its 1st Exhibit Opening featuring works by local artist Steve Davis. To showcase and connect with the active artist community of Port Aransas and surrounding areas, Sunflower Beach will open a portion of its beautiful 2,500 square foot Sales Gallery to be used as a rotating gallery of local artists. From 4 PM – 6 PM on April 22nd, delicious bites from Lisabella’s, carefully selected wines, and live Flamenco guitar music by Lela Caldwell will add to the day’s festivities.
About the Artist: Steve Davis
In 1994, Steve Davis gave up his businesses in San Antonio and moved to Houston to work at a contemporary art gallery. “Certain artists we represented broadened my horizon. They made me see things from a new perspective,” says Davis. This perspective led him to transform his love of time-weathered objects into works of art. He creates detailed pieces by combining found, antique objects with elements created by nature. In this exhibit, Davis suspends sand dollars inside found objects with transparent fishing line, allowing for beautiful and intricate patterns to emerge.
With an appreciation for art, architecture, and design, Sunflower Beach instantly recognized the beauty in Davis’ work and sought him out as a natural fit with the aesthetic of the community. Nestled among 50 acres of protected dune preserves and overlooking some of Texas’ most pristine beachfront along Mustang Island, the design of Sunflower Beach embraces the New Urbanism principles of walkability, quiet lanes, open green spaces, striking architecture, and in creating meaningful opportunities for social interactions for friends and family.

3 Bedroom Home (Brochure)
Designed by Melton Henry, a respected architect from Port Aransas with a long history of beautiful homes on the Texas coast. This 3 bedroom, 2 bath home offers over 1,000 square feet or porches, balconies, and courtyard. A third-floor observation tower encompasses a 360 degree view of the community.
It's an exciting time on the ground at Sunflower Beach with the Grand Opening of our Beach Club slated for Spring 2017 and several luxury homes currently being built around the community.
THE BEACH CLUB & POOLS
Starting with the heart of the community, the Beach Club and Pools have begun to take shape and are making a striking impression. The colorful and elegant finishes of the poolside cabanas, dining areas, and entertainment pavilion will offer a bright and sophisticated setting for our families to enjoy sun-splashed days by the pool.
Next up for completion is the finish-out of our resort-style family pool with shallow beach entry, the adult pool separated by a cascading fountain wall, and native landscaping. The Beach Club will be the perfect setting for our first Grand Opening event in the Spring.
Architecture is one of the pillars of New Urban design and Sunflower Beach has enjoyed the opportunity of working with some of Texas' finest architects and builders. Our first two homes, with distinct architectural styles, are nearing completion.
Designed by architect Bill Sommerfeld and built by Keystone Builders, Sunflower Beach's first home is a gorgeous 2-story, 3-bedroom Craftsmen situated on a large corner lot and enjoys views of both the Gulf and golf course from one of its 3 balconies. And with a covered porch and separate patio, the home brings the outdoors in, making it the ideal coastal getaway.
Just around the corner, Conner Coastal's Beach Vernacular style home offers a touch of Cape Code flair with its use of lap siding and shingle accents. This two-story, 3-bedroom home features a Great Room that expands out to a second-story balcony and is designed with an over-sized kitchen island, generous living areas on both floors and a charming courtyard, offering a lovely home for entertaining.
For the first time on the Texas coast, Sunflower Beach has the pleasure of bringing acclaimed-architect Larry Speck's vision to life with its first-of-its-kind modern coastal condominiums. With clean modern interiors and thoughtful floorplans, these homes have been well-received and we have reserved 70% of the 21 residences with our first buyers going to contract within the next few weeks. Please contact us if you are interested in learning more about this offering and in taking advantage of our pre-construction pricing.
Sunflower Beach has teamed up with Turnkey Vacation Rentals to create an ideal vacation home opportunity in Port Aransas, a city which has seen a welcomed growth in New Urbanism resorts in the spirit of Florida’s famed 30-A and continues to be a sought-after Texas vacation destination.

This Friday, August 12th, the city of Port Aransas proudly presents Mikayla Griffin at the Patsy Jones Amphitheater in Roberts Point Park from 7 - 9 pm. Mikayla, born and raised in Cleburne, Texas started playing professionally at 10, (which was only 5 years ago) and was “officially discovered” at an open mic night at the House of Blues in Dallas when she was 11. In the four years since then, she has performed about 50 times at the House of Blues, as well as at various Opry venues in Texas.
Most recently, she performed at the state-of-the-art broadcast studio inside Children’s Medical Center in Dallas. The studio, which was made possible through the Ryan Seacrest Foundation, airs children’s programming to patients who are unable to leave their rooms and includes an outdoor performance stage so that visiting musicians can host concerts for patients. Her musical passions are pop and country, but after visiting with her and listening to her music I wouldn’t put her in a box.
Here is our interview with her:
SFB: Have you been to Port Aransas? If so, what is your favorite thing to do?
MG: Walking on the beach and eating seafood. But I’m pretty sure my new favorite thing will be playing music in Port Aransas.
SFB: Who encouraged you to go to the open mic night at House of Blues the night you were discovered? Were you nervous?
MG: I was doing operas and then my grandpa put together a little band for me to try out. I wasn’t extremely nervous because I had been in front of audiences before, but it was kind of a big deal when I was that young.
SFB: What has been your favorite venue to perform and why?
MG: House of Blues Vegas was my favorite venue. It was really cool there and there was a country music festival going on across the street, so the audience was really into what I was doing. It was a great experience.
SFB: We know that you really liked performing at the studio inside Children’s Medical Center in Dallas. What is your favorite memory from that experience?
MG: When I was at the Ryan Seacrest Studio, we were checking in and there was a kid in the lobby really screaming and it was very loud in there and everyone was kind of not happy. I was holding a ukulele so I just started playing it and instantly the kid quieted down and started watching me. It really showed the power of music and how it can soothe you.
SFB: Have you thought about college? If so, what school do you have in mind?
MG: I plan on going to the Art Institute in Dallas. I’m very interested in doing animation.
SFB: What moment has made you the most proud?
MG: The proudest moment I’ve ever had is when Miranda Lambert saw me playing at House of Blues and she asked me to meet her and complimented me on my voice. Ashley Monroe from Pistol Annies was there also and said she wished she had my range.
SFB: Now for some silly questions. Who is your musical crush?
MG: My musical crush would be Tyler Joseph from Twenty One Pilots.
SFB: Dr. Pepper or Coke? Also, what is your favorite junk food?
MG: Dr. Pepper of course! Just give me some ramen noodles and Flaming Hot Cheetos and I’m good to go for a while!
SFB: Are you a Pokémon Go player? If yes, what team and what is your best Pokémon catch?
MG: I do not play but if I did I would be on team Mystic.
“Let’s Have Some Fun” is Mikayla’s creation and a taste of the music she will be entertaining us with on Friday. Bring a lawn chair, a tasty beverage, and cheer this girl on. She is truly a rising star!

Mark your calendars to visit Sunflower Beach before the end of the summer! Should you have any questions, we're happy to assist in helping you arrange a trip to this jewel on the Texas Coast.
Austin is known as the live music capital of the world, but Port Aransas is not lacking when it comes to providing top quality local talent. The City of Port Aransas Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a Summer Concert Series at Roberts Point Park.
Each month we will be highlighting the musicians/bands performing this summer. You will get an inside look at the musician and their music with information on when they will be performing.
This month the Jesse Stratton Band will be performing on July 8th. The concert will begin at about 7pm at the Patsy Jones Amphitheater.
The band is known for a perfect mix of Americana and Texas country music full of truth and raw emotion. Band vocalist, Jesse Stratton also plays guitar, saxophone, and harmonica. Jesse’s best friend, Kenny Martinez does percussion and vocals. Rounding out the band is Austin’s own Tony Garossino on lead guitar and John Ohlinger on bass guitar.
Jesse has been playing music since the age of 10 and attended school on a music scholarship. The Jesse Stratton Band was formed in 2014, originally as a duo – Stratton and Martinez. Eventually, they added Garossino and Ohlinger which created the full and rich sound live music fans beg for.
To get to know Jesse and the band a little better we asked him some questions:
Interviewer: Have you been to Port Aransas before and, if so, what is your favorite thing about this place?
Jesse: I have not been since I was a child actually. My favorite part was always playing in the waves.
Interviewer: Who is the practical joker of the group?
Jesse: We don’t do many practical jokes, but we all make fun of each other constantly.
Interviewer: What is your favorite drink?
Jesse: Dr. Pepper, all the way. Especially with BBQ.
Interviewer: What do you and your band mates like to do for fun?
Jesse: When we’re not playing shows, we’re driving to shows. When we’re not driving to shows or playing shows, occasionally we go see another band play together. One of our favorite things to do is to go eat breakfast in the middle of the night after a show and see who can make the best (worst) puns.
Interviewer: Who is married/dating and who is still available?
Jesse: I am married with 4 children! I am the only member of the band who is married.
Interviewer: What was your best day as a band?
Jesse: Releasing our first full-length CD together, which just came out about two months ago.
HOT TIP!! If you are looking for a sneak peak, visit Treasure Island and hear Jesse do a solo act on July 7th at 8pm. If you’ve never been to Treasure Island it’s a must see as it's the newest and most beautiful bar on the island.

We will see you there!
Port Aransas High School sophomore and Eagle Scout candidate, Luke Windham, met with city leaders to discuss issues that he could help with. The city stated that the Chamber of Commerce, in a joint effort with the Nueces River Authority, gave litter bags. However, the city had not found an ideal way of distributing them. Luke went to work and designed a kiosk to house the bags. On Saturday, June 26th, two kiosks were placed on the Beach at Avenue G and Horace Caldwell Pier.
The graphic design was provided by the Port Aransas Chamber of Commerce and it mirrors the signage on the city’s beach trash trucks.
Many thanks to Luke for his efforts to help keep our beaches clean. Next time you plan a day at the beach, make an effort to leave it in better shape than when you found it! Grab a bag and keep Port Aransas beautiful!

Last year a village of bollard people began to spring forth on the beach here in Port Aransas. Most of them are gone, but there are still remnants and plenty of bollards to decorate.
The first bollard character was created by someone who used objects left behind by beachgoers. They named him "Wilson."
The idea caught on quickly and soon islanders gathered together to create friends for Wilson. It’s amazing to see the creativity that springs from living in such a beautiful place.
Come on down and try it!
Port Aransas has so many charms. It’s a small community with beautiful beaches, great fishing, and so much more.
One thing that is so amazing about our island is that we have the privilege of watching ships travel through the ship channel on a daily basis. These gentle giants make their way through with such grace and elegance; it is a joy to watch. You will often see residents and tourists taking pictures of these marvels of metal making their way through.
The many pods of dolphin that live here help lead the way as they jump and play with the wave.
Some ships look more like a carnival ride than a ship.
A few days out of the year, we get to see something truly amazing and the whole town is abuzz with whispers that a big rig is making its way through the channel. Crowds gather quickly and we greet our friends and neighbors. Together we watch in awe and take pictures of these massive structures moving through the water and observe the dwarfed tug boats navigating the narrow waters as they help the giants glide out to sea or back in to port.
And just when you think you’ve seen the biggest thing you could possibly see, one day you get a surprise…
The fascination never ends and the people of Port Aransas never tire of watching the vessels move to-and-fro through our island waters. It is truly a blessing of island life.

Sunflower Beach is modeled on the “New Urbanism” school of community design that has been so instrumental in the success of Florida’s 30-A communities such as Seaside, Rosemary Beach and Watercolor.
The Sunflower Beach team traveled to 30-A to spend time with local resident and Urban Planner, Mark Schnell. We were immersed in the architecture, sense of community, and “hometown” roots behind Schnell’s design at Sunflower Beach, which places more emphasis on spending time with family and friends, on foot or a bicycle, tossing a ball on a lawn or enjoying the resort pools and beach within easy reach of each residence. Rosemary Beach is the particular inspiration for our community, and the architectural mix and color palettes create a unique offering for those desiring a new Port Aransas address.
