You offer many types of hurricane protection. Which one do you recommend?

What color options do you offer?

I did not found an answer on my particular question!

It depends on your wishes and your willingness to work before a storm approaches:

The rolldown shutters are very convenient, push a button on your remote control and that‘s it. This job can also be done from the neighbors house while you are on holiday. The rolldown shutters protect your house against burglars, the sun and heat, too, and they give you the possibility to darken your room during a movie or a session on your computer.

The fabric shutters give you the convenient availability to see what’s going on during a storm, they need a little bit time to install before a storm hits. You have to unscrew the screws, put the fabric on and fasten the screws again on every window. They can also stay installed on lanais during the season.

The metal or lexan panels need at least a few hours of work in the sun to put them up (and the same time or more to take them down again…). Not to mention the broken screws that need to be replaced from time to time with an electric driller.

Bahamian shutters were a big deal a few years ago. But you got more disadvantages than advantages with that system: Because the bahamians stay always installed, they take the light out of your house and it seems to be always dark inside. You have to fold them down when a hurricane approaches, but it takes a while and can be dangerous because of wasps; they love to life near the edges of Bahamian shutters.

The accordion shutters are a good alternative for the panels, they act like panels except that they do not have to be installed every time. But they take a big space from your window. On a big lanai, it can coast you almost a third of your opening. And in our opinion it is not a good looking protection at all.

Least but not last, plywood, we do not recommend it as hurricane protection. Even though it is better than nothing, it won’t stop big debris like grills, palm trees, tires, stones, bicycles, and other stuff from flying into your house. We are talking about a 130mph storm, not a fine breeze from the ocean…

Depending on your insurance company and on the way you protect your house, you will get a small or a big discount on your payments because of appropriate hurricane protection. Talk to your insurance agent about that.

The rolldown shutters are exclusively available in every color and texture you want. They can look like wood or aluminum, they can be bright yellow, navy blue, dark grey or light green. We do everything to fulfill and exceed your special wishes (surcharge applies on all other colors than white).

The fabric shutters are available in beige, grey and black.

Accordion shutters are available in white only.

Bahamian shutters are usually white, but can also be painted in every color.

We do also offer clear panels and metal panels; and of course plywood, that looks and feels like wood.

Our roll down shutters are made of aluminum. They are originally coming from Europe, shipped and handled through our partners to Fort Myers/FL. Here in SW Florida they are made to order to meet your needs (all our prices include shipping and handling). The fabrics and the other systems are made in the US.

No. Beginning with May 2007 we offer hurricane shutters for big lanais, too. There is no need to store the bulky storm bars after a hurricane in your storage or garage.

Of course all of our shutters are approved by the State of Florida, they all meet or exceed the Florida Building Code, and we do also offer shutters that meet the Miami Dade code.

FAQ (frequently asked questions)

After we got your order and your down payment we will deliver your hurricane protection system in one to six weeks; after that, we usually need only one to three days to install your new shutter system (depending on the windows, on your house and on the chosen protection style).
